Pathlight Investors CEO, Patsy Nodilo, discusses the importance of planning and focusing on what you can control when financial markets are volatile.

U.S. stock markets are essentially flat through mid-August and are being completely driven by the Technology, Healthcare and Financial sectors.  A very narrow subset of sectors and holdings are having substantial influence on the near-term performance, which is likely to continue.  We expect the near term volatility to persist, at least, until the September Federal Reserve meeting which should provide a clearer direction on short-term interest rates…..

Hurry up and wait!  That seems to characterize 2015 so far.  We are now half way through the year, and the waiting continues:  Wait to see if the U.S. economy will accelerate.  Wait to see if Greece will remain in the Euro.  Wait to see if U.S. consumers will spend the gasoline savings.  Wait to see if the U.S. Federal Reserve will finally raise interest rates.  Wait to see if China can stabilize.  Wait to see if Europe’s growth is sustainable.  Wait to see. . .

Slower Growth?  Higher Rates?

After almost three years of staying out of the headlines, the focus again has turned to Greece and their potential debt default.  In fact this week, Greece closed banks and limited withdrawals from ATMs to only 60 Euro per day.

When you couple this with underwhelming economic growth and the potential for a Fed Rate hike, macroeconomic concerns are now driving markets, thus increasing volatility....
